What you can expect

Your experience begins at 9:00 AM, when our driver will pick you up from Sapa Stone Church and take you on a scenic 30-minute drive to Ta Van village, home to many Hmong families.

When you arrive in the village, my sister will warmly welcome you and guide you on a gentle trek through one of the most beautiful bamboo forests in the valley. This peaceful walk allows you to experience the natural beauty of the mountains while learning about daily life in our community.

During the walk, you will help collect firewood from the forest, just as local families have done for generations. The wood you gather will later be used in the traditional process of making our homemade Hmong rice wine.

After around 1 to 1.5 hours of walking, you will arrive at my family home, where I will welcome you with tea and introduce you to one of the most meaningful traditions in Hmong culture.

I will teach you step by step how our family makes traditional rice wine by hand.
You will learn:
how we choose the rice
how we wash and soak it
how we steam the rice
how we cool it naturally
how we mix it with traditional herbal yeast
how we ferment it over time
and how we slowly distill the wine over a wood fire
You will not only watch, but also have the chance to take part in the process yourself, so you can understand each stage in an authentic way.

The preparation usually takes around 2 to 3 hours, and while the wine is cooking, I will share stories about Hmong life, family traditions, and why rice wine is so important in our culture.

For the Hmong people, rice wine is not simply a drink.
It is a symbol of:
hospitality
respect
friendship
celebration
and family connection

When visitors come to our home, we offer rice wine to show that we are happy to welcome them. During weddings, New Year celebrations, harvest festivals, and important family gatherings, rice wine brings people together and helps strengthen relationships between families and friends.

In our tradition, sharing rice wine means sharing trust and kindness.
Once the wine is ready, you will enjoy a small tasting of the freshly made rice wine together with local snacks, and before you leave, we will give you a small bottle to take home as a special memory of your day with our family.

This experience is not just about learning how to make wine — it is about stepping into the real life of a Hmong family and discovering a tradition that has been passed down for many generations.
The tour will end at 2-3pm the car will drive you back to Sapa
