What you can expect

  • Just as the sun begins the day, so does your park walk: in the east, at the Obelisk in Sanssouci Park. You will walk westward through various gates and marvel at their significance. As you stroll through the Baroque park, you will discover hidden orchards, among other things, and learn what “seeing into the distance” meant in the Baroque period. Continuing westward, you will see Sanssouci Palace. For good reason, you do not walk directly to the palace, but away from it to the South Gate. This detour is worth it!
Finally walking to the palace, you'll enjoy the views of the palace, Potsdam, and the park. You linger at the top; take photos with and in front of a fantastic backdrop, and you get significantly closer to the creator of the park once again.
“Behind the palace,” your gaze will wander to the Ruinenberg (Ruin Hill), and as you look at the windmill, you will hear more stories about the creator of this park.

Depending on the time and your inclination, after this highlight, you can make your way back at a brisk pace or take a somewhat more leisurely “way home.” You will head back to the Church of Peace, where your tour will finally come to an end at the “green railing” by Luisenplatz after taking in many sights, or, if you prefer, back at the starting point: the obelisk.
