Embark on a scenic and culturally rich journey around one of Sado Island’s most iconic natural landmarks. Starting from Ryotsu Port, this 17–21 km loop takes approximately 3 hours to complete and is ideal for beginners and casual riders.
As you ride along the peaceful shoreline of Lake Kamo, encounter a variety of local highlights that showcase the island’s unique charm. One of the first major stops is Toki Forest Park, home to the endangered Japanese crested ibis. Once nearly extinct, these beautiful birds have been successfully bred and protected on Sado Island, and visitors can see them up close in this dedicated conservation facility.
Further along the route, pass through quiet fishing villages and rural landscapes that offer a glimpse into everyday life on Sado. Among these is Ushio Shrine, a traditional Shinto shrine known for its historical Noh theater stage. Surrounded by tranquil woods and overlooking the lake, the shrine is a peaceful spot for a break and reflection.
The route also includes picturesque views of local oyster farms, seasonal reflections on the lake’s surface, and the distant silhouette of Mt. Kinpoku, the island’s highest peak. On clear days, the combination of water, mountains, and sky creates a stunning natural panorama. The path is also popular with local joggers and walkers, contributing to a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere throughout your ride.
To finish off your journey, stop at Shiizaki Onsen, a lakeside hot spring area perfect for soaking tired muscles. There’s nothing like a warm bath and a serene view of the water to conclude your cycling adventure.
