Overview

This tour aims to highlight Klang’s charm and unique attractions including clusters of colonial sights, places of worship, a school, fire station, royal gallery, warehouse built by a Malay chieftain and Mangrove Point. Klang or Kelang, officially Royal City of Klang (Malay: Bandar Diraja Klang), is a royal city and former capital of the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It is located within the Klang District. It was the civil capital of Selangor in an earlier era prior to the emergence of Kuala Lumpur and the current capital, Shah Alam. Port Klang, which is located in the Klang District, is the 12th busiest transshipment port and the 12th busiest container port in the world. This building was used as government offices for both the colonial and post-independence administrations as well as serving as a Japanese military headquarters during world War II. It was recently converted into the Royal Gallery museum to showcase the Royal Collections of the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz including a range of magnificent artefacts covering his reign.
Chennai Silk Palace

The former Chartered Bank building (now Chennai Silk Sarees) Next to the Royal Gallery is the former Chartered Bank building. This neoclassical building, which dates from 1874, was the first bank to be opened in Klang. During World War II the Japanese used the premises to interrogate and execute prisoners of war. The building has more recently been renovated and it is now occupied by Chennai Silk, a retailer of saris, fabrics and more.
Istana Alam Shah (Pass by)

Alam Shah Palace Istana Alam Shah is the official palace of the Sultan of Selangor, located in southern Klang, the royal town of the state of Selangor, Malaysia. Despite the Sultan having two other official residences in Shah Alam and Putrajaya, most royal ceremonies (such as the coronation of a new Sultan) involving the Selangor royal family are held in Istana Alam Shah. The palace has 15 rooms and was built using wood and marble. In early 2000, extensive renovations were carried out by Sultan Salahuddin Shah.
Little India District

Klang has a sizeable ethnically Indian community and the Little India district is bustling and interesting, packed with colourful shops selling saris, textiles, bangles, jewellery, food items, spices, flowers etc. The pavement outside some of the shops is so clean and shiny you feel like you should take your shoes off before walking on it.

Church of Our Lady of Lourdes The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL) is a church located on Jalan Tengku Kelana, Klang, Malaysia. Built in 1928, the current parish priest is Rev Fr Jude Gregory Chan and is assisted by Rev Fr Ferdinand Magimay. The church had celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2008 after the church building had undergone some restoration and repainting works. Additionally, a new four-storey formation centre, named Wisma Lourdes, had been added to the church's complex in order to meet the increasing number of students and classes needed for Sunday School. Wisma Lourdes also houses the parochial house. Klang Convent School The school is located at Jalan Tengku Kelana adjacent to the Church of Our Lady Of Lourdes. It was established in 1924 and initially only 19 students only studying in this school. Main school building was built around the year 1926 to 1928. Was officiated by Sir William Peel in 1928.
Masjid India Klang

Tengku Kelana Indian Muslim Mosque Masjid India Muslim Tengku Kelana Klang was built in 1910 for religious and community activities by the Indian-Muslim community living in Klang and the surrounding area. The mosque is located on Jalan Tengku Kelana, Klang which is a popular Indian shopping area. The original building of the mosque has been demolished and replaced with a new mosque building in 1973. However, this building has also been demolished to replace the large and modern new 2-storey mosque to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims. The mosque is now one of the landmarks for Klang.

Raja Abdullah Warehouse Gedung Raja Abdullah was built around 1857 making it probably the oldest surviving building in Klang, if not the whole of Selangor. This two storey heritage building was originally used as a warehouse (gedung means godown/warehouse) for Raja Abdullah, the first Malay tin-mining pioneer, who lived upstairs with his family while storing his tin ore and other goods on the ground floor. Although it has been adapted to accommodate modern fire fighting appliances, it still retains many of its original features.
