Begin with a pickup from the center of Rovaniemi and head to Kotatuli, a farm located deep in the forest. As you get closer, the roads become smaller, and you dive deeper into the middle of nature. Travel the rest of the way along a narrow forest road and arrive after about an hour's drive.
Start the visit by getting to know the horses in their own herd. The horses live together in a yard and are used to different people and situations. They usually come to greet guests already at the gate. After that, groom and equip your own horse for riding. Your guide helps and instructs in everything necessary and guarantees safety on the trip. After the equipment, set off peacefully in line, and begin your journey towards breathtaking landscapes.
The journey takes you along forest trails, and during that time you may see signs of forest animals, such as tracks in the snow or sand. If you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a reindeer herd. Many different animals live in Finnish forests, such as reindeer, hares, foxes, and moose. The forest is their home, and Finns respect the forest and its animals.
Continue through versatile and partly challenging terrain. When you reach the top of the hill, take a short break and admire the breathtaking scenery. At the same time, give the horses a little break after a steep climb. At this point, you are halfway through your riding adventure. From there, continue back towards the homestead.
When you arrive back at the farm, strip the horses and thank them for a wonderful trip. After that, head to the hut, where a warm and atmospheric reception awaits you. The hut's benches are lined with reindeer antlers, and in the middle of the fire pit there is a wonderfully warming campfire. Enjoy grilled sausage, pastries, and a cup of hot coffee or tea. Together, enjoy the cozy atmosphere of the hut and listen to the guide's stories about Finnish nature and Finns' connection with brave and loyal Finnish horses.
At the end of the day, return to the departure point in the center of Rovaniemi.
