EXTENDED TOUR- a true must-do in Rijeka.
This tour takes you deep into Rijeka’s turbulent past, visiting the very locations where history actually happened.
It is not only a journey through history, but also through nature, offering stunning panoramic views of the city along the way.
The main focus of the tour is a series of underground and above-ground fortresses built in the 1930s as part of the former border defence system. These structures are considered a masterpiece of military engineering for their time.
The route itself is an experience, leading through historically significant locations such as Banska vrata and the Pašac Bridge, while following scenic roads including the historic Louisiana and Petroleum routes. Along the way, you’ll enjoy spectacular viewpoints overlooking the city.
The highlight of the tour is a walk through the 1,000-metre underground fortress Katarina B, where you’ll learn about the Battle of Rijeka and the final stages of the city’s liberation during World War II. The experience also includes visits to above-ground fortifications, views over the Rječina canyon, and glimpses of Rijeka’s old mills.
The tour ends in the entrance hall of the unfinished underground fortress San Giovanni, where you can relax with a glass of wine, socialize, and watch a short film about Rijeka’s post–World War II restoration.
If you want to experience Rijeka from every perspective - underground, historical, and scenic - this is the tour for you.
