Overview

The panoramic view we have of the whole Island from the top of Mount Terevaka is amazing. But something that makes this ride special is the opportunity we have to leave a positive mark on Rapa Nui. Plant your own tree and help us reforest the Island.

Activity itinerary

Start the day by being picked up from your hotel (we need the name of your hotel), with a short drive to the ranch (20 minutes) enjoying the nature along the way. Here you will meet your horse and the guide of the activity. Then we start the ride to the top of Mount Terevaka passing through a eucalyptus forest. Here the sounds of birds and crickets take over the place. Leaving the forest we come across the soft meadows of the upper part of the mountain. A perfect place to enjoy the view and the wind. Upon reaching the top you can see the entire Island and the sea that surrounds us in 360 ° without interruption. But the main purpose of this activity is that you can leave a green mark on Rapa Nui by planting your own tree on top of Mount Terevaka. We hope that if one day you decide to return, you can enjoy the shade or the fruits of the tree that you planted. Afterwards, we remount the horses and begin the gentle descent back to the ranch. Special beginner route. Maximum 6 people. The weather can be quite unpredictable, so it's a good idea to be prepared for some rain.

A great ride starting from the stables, through a eucalyptus forest, past the last volcano to have been active on the island to the highest point. Tonchi and Alice were lovely people, friendly and helpful throughout. The groups are kept small (ours was just three plus Tonchi) meaning you were taught how to get the most from your horse and talked through the local area as well. The horses were well cared for, the ride was good for me as a novice and my fiancé, who can ride, had time to take her horse in front for a ‘stretch’ as well. Planting a tree at the highest point gives a great reason to go back and visit in the future to see how we’ve helped create a new woodland at the top. I would highly recommend!

When planning a mother/daughter trip to Rapa Nui I was looking for something as beautiful and interesting as the Island itself for an afternoon adventure. I am so happy we booked this ride, our guide was exceptional as he shared stories of the Island, and the fauna on his land and even showed us the home he was building. It was truly one of the most beautiful rides I have ever been on and the rich history he shared was truly interesting. He gave us time alone at the mountaintop to explore, meditate, and appreciate the beauty of the land. Along the way we saw horses, and cows roaming free the way, we learned they do throughout the Island. Then we helped re-forest the Island by planting a tree in honor of my mother. Whether a family trip, a romantic trip for two, or in honor of a special event, this is a trip NOT to be missed.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT take this excursion wearing shorts unless you want to lose a bit of skin on your legs from the saddle. Other than that it's a wonderful ride. Iti, the horse was gentle, the area is spectacular, the view from the top of Terevaka is spectacular and planting a tree to help with reforestation of the island was an incredible way to spend a morning on Rapa Nui. If (when) I go again I will definitely do this trip again (with pants).
