Piton de la Fournaise, an iconic spot on Réunion, rises to 2,632 meters and dominates the southern plains of the island. Built on the southeastern flank of Piton des Neiges, it is a volcano known for its fairly frequent eruptions. The aim of this 5- to 6-hour hiking tour is to reach the summit of Piton de la Fournaise by getting off the beaten track and venturing off the marked trail!
Throughout this hike to Piton de la Fournaise, you will discover a lunar landscape with an end-of-the-world feel that exudes incredible power and is well worth the trip. Once you reach the top of the volcano, you can admire the Dolomieu Crater, one of the two volcanic craters located at the summit of Piton de la Fournaise, along with the Bory Crater. It collapsed during the April 2007 eruption and measures one kilometer long by 750 meters wide, and is about 350 meters deep.

Itinerary
Meet the live guide in front of the Musée du Volcan in Bourg-Murat
Departure by car (your vehicle) towards the volcano with a few stops along the way to get information on certain types of landscapes
Once at Pas de Bellecombe, the discovery continues on foot: ropy lava will follow clinker lava, and you will discover Piton de la Fournaise with explanations from your live guide
After a long climb, you will reach the summit of Piton de la Fournaise, from where you can admire the Dolomieu crater and have a picnic
In the afternoon, you will descend the slopes of the volcano to return to your starting point
