Take a breathtaking scenic flight over the Southern Alps to the West Coast, home to more than 3,000 glaciers, snow-capped peaks, alpine lakes, and untouched native bush. Franz Josef is one of only a few places on Earth where glacial ice descends into rainforest, making it one of New Zealand's most iconic natural wonders.
On arrival in Franz Josef township, check in at the Glacier Base to gear up with hiking equipment and receive a safety briefing from your experienced guide. Your helicopter transfer will then take you high onto the Franz Josef Icefall.
Strap on your crampons and set off to explore ice caves and crevasses, scenery only a limited number of visitors get to see up close each year.
Round out the day with a return helicopter flight off the ice, then a scenic plane flight back to Queenstown.
