Puerto Maldonado – Paradise Lodge
Travelers will be picked up at the airport or bus station and taken to the lodge. We will drive for 15 minutes through the city of Puerto Maldonado. Then we'll sail down the Madre de Dios River for approximately 30 minutes before arriving at our first lodge: Paradise Lodge. After lunch and dropping off our gear, we will explore the jungle in search of animals and birds in the primary forest, learning about medicinal plants, and observing giant trees. That night, we'll go on a night hike where we'll be able to observe a wide variety of animals, from tarantulas and snakes to insects.
DAY 2
Paradise Lodge – Sandoval Lodge
Our activity will start very early, at 5:00 AM. We'll sail upstream for 45 minutes to observe the parrot clay lick, where we'll be able to spot four species of parrots. After visiting the collpa, we will return to the lodge to enjoy a delicious breakfast. We'll collect our belongings and take a boat to the Tambopata National Reserve (Lake Sandoval). There, we'll have the opportunity to observe animals such as giant otters, four species of monkeys, butterflies, and a variety of colorful birds native to Peru. Accommodation: Travelers will have the privilege of sleeping inside the National Reserve at Sandoval Lodge, a hostel owned by a local family. This lodge is simple, comfortable, and a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature. For lunch, we'll enjoy a typical jungle dish, the “juane”, at Sandoval Lodge. After lunch, travelers will have a few minutes to rest and get settled before embarking on an afternoon exploration of the primary forest. There, we'll look for more animals, birds, and plants native to the area. That night, we'll look for caimans, some up to 4 meters long, before returning to the lodge for the night.
DAY 3
Sandoval Lodge – Palm Forest – Paradise Lodge
At 4:30 a.m., we'll take a walk through the palm grove to watch the macaws and blue-and-yellow parrots having breakfast (nuts). Then we'll return to Sandoval Lodge for breakfast and finish exploring the National Reserve. From there, we will return by boat to Paradise Lodge (our first accommodation), where lunch awaits us. In the afternoon, travelers can enjoy a canopy and zip line adventure. Here they can see toucans and other small, colorful birds. That night, travelers can relax in nature, spend time with the other travelers, and enjoy their last night at the lodge.
