Raffles Garden

Raffles Garden is a tranquil, nautical-themed space on Fort Canning Hill that honours Singapore’s founder through several historical replicas. At its heart stands Raffles House, a brick-and-tile structure built on the site of Sir Stamford Raffles’ original 1822 wooden residence. Nearby, visitors can see a functional replica of the Time Ball, which was historically used to signal the time to the town and harbour. Complementing these are a striking white replica of the Fort Canning Lighthouse, which once guided ships into the harbour, and a Naval Flagstaff that formerly used coded flags to communicate ship arrivals and identities to merchants below. The garden is further enriched by tropical flora Raffles encountered in Southeast Asia, including the vibrant Flame-of-the-Forest tree.

Sang Nila Utama Garden

The Sang Nila Utama Garden is a beautifully reconstructed 14th-century Javanese-style royal garden that welcomes visitors with its iconic Candi Bentar (split gates) and symmetrical reflecting pools. A standout feature is the heritage bas-relief, a series of intricate stone carvings that depict ancient Malay life and scenes from the Majapahit and Srivijaya empires, alongside sculptures of symbolic animals like frogs and ducks. The garden's lush atmosphere is anchored by a majestic heritage rain tree, whose sprawling canopy provides a natural frame for the traditional brick architecture and fragrant historical plants like magnolias and gardenias. This serene space serves as a living tribute to Singapore's pre-colonial history, offering a regal backdrop that transports tourists back to the era of the legendary Prince Sang Nila Utama.

Keramat Sultan Iskandar Shah

At the Keramat Iskandar Shah, a tourist will find a serene, open-air pavilion nestled on the lush slopes of Fort Canning Hill. The site features a traditional Malay-style structure with a tiered, red-tiled roof and dark wooden pillars that shelter a raised platform. In the centre sits a symbolic tomb, or cenotaph. While simple in design, the keramat offers a quiet, spiritual contrast to the nearby colonial fortifications, providing a physical link to Singapore's 14th-century royal past and the legendary founder of the Melaka Sultanate.

Spice Garden

The Spice Garden and Spice Gallery at Fort Canning Park offer a fragrant journey into Singapore’s colonial history. This 3,200-square-metre living museum is home to over 180 plant varieties, including historical crops like nutmeg and clove that once fuelled the island's spice trade. As you stroll through the terraced garden, you can descend into the Spice Gallery, a creatively repurposed underpass featuring interactive exhibits and life-sized replicas of a traditional spice shop and a local kopitiam (coffee shop). Visitors can lift canisters to smell dried spices or listen to oral histories from real traders, making it an immersive sensory experience.

Fort Canning Green

At Fort Canning Green, you’ll find yourself in a vast, sloping lawn that feels like a natural amphitheatre framed by majestic heritage trees. Once the site of Singapore's first Christian cemetery, the space is now a peaceful urban sanctuary where the quiet weight of history meets modern leisure. You’ll see the Gothic-style gateways and impressive memorial walls inset with 19th-century tombstones. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy the breeze, and soak in the juxtaposition of ancient brickwork against the distant glitter of the city skyline.

Fort Canning Park Tree Tunnel

The Fort Canning Tree Tunnel is a must-visit hidden gem, famous for its stunning spiral staircase that creates a natural "portal" to the sky. As you look up from the bottom of the stairs, the circular opening perfectly frames a massive, lush Yellow Rain Tree against the skyline, offering a fairy tale-like backdrop that has become one of Singapore’s most viral photography spots.

Battlebox (Pass by)

The Battle box is a preserved underground command centre hidden nine metres beneath Fort Canning Hill, serving as the nerve centre for British operations during the Malayan Campaign in the 1930s. It was in the very rooms of this bunker—the secret plotting chambers and signal stations—that Lieutenant-General Arthur Percival made the fateful 1942 decision to surrender Singapore to the Japanese, marking the "largest capitulation" in British history and Singapore’s turning point from a colonial fortress to an occupied territory.

Fort Canning Arts Centre

Perched atop the historic Fort Canning Hill, the Fort Canning Centre is a stunning neoclassical landmark that has transformed from 1920s British military barracks into a vibrant cultural hub. You will explore the Fort Canning Heritage Gallery, which brings 700 years of Singapore’s history to life through interactive displays and ancient artefacts. The building’s grand architecture is characterised by its symmetrical wings and deep verandas. Soak in the heritage!

Fort Canning Park

The Forbidden Spring, or Pancur Larangan, is a beautifully restored 14th-century-style garden on the western slopes of Fort Canning Park. Historically, it was the private bathing place for the noble ladies of the royal court of ancient Singapura, making it off-limits to commoners. Today, tourists can explore the serene space, which features lush tropical foliage, reflective pools, and gentle waterfalls that recreate the area's ancient royal atmosphere. A highlight is the handcrafted stone mural carved from natural volcanic rock, depicting daily life on the hill from the 14th to the 19th century. Designed with Javanese (Majapahit) architectural influences, the garden offers a peaceful respite from the city's noise, where historical plaques and symbolic motifs like the kala (a guardian beast) bring Singapore’s pre-colonial heritage to life.

Clarke Quay

Visiting Clarke Quay during the day offers a serene, breezy alternative to its high-energy nightlife. As the city wakes up, you can enjoy a peaceful stroll along the Singapore River, where the gentle lapping of the water replaces the evening’s thumping music. The morning light perfectly illuminates the area’s historic architecture, most notably the Old Hill Street Police Station located just across the road. This iconic landmark, with its 927 vibrant, rainbow-coloured shutters, serves as a stunning backdrop for photos and looks particularly brilliant under the early sun. You’ll see the pastel-hued shophouses and "godowns" reflected in the calm river while fitness enthusiasts and early-bird tourists enjoy the open space. Watch the traditional bumboats begin their daily circuits. It is the ideal time to appreciate the heritage of this former trading hub before the afternoon heat sets in.
