It was established in 1974 and it has Byzantine architecture, with many arches and bell tower. Its huge exterior, and the unique interior of the temple will leave you speechless.
Patras Mycenaean Park -Voundeni
  • 30m

The Mycenaean cemetery of Voudeni located near the settlement of Voudeni (also known as Skioessa) of the Municipality of Patras in Western Greece. The archaeological site of a total area of 180 acres is located at an altitude of 220 meters, 7 kilometers northeast of Patras, has been transformed into a recreational park. It includes 78 carved tombs and the ruins of a prehistoric settlement. The prehistoric settlement of Voudeni, lasting approximately five hundred years (1500–1050 BC), was one of the most prominent regional sites of the periphery of the Mycenaean world. Due to the natural fortification and hiding provided by the Bortzi hill at the foot of Mt. Panachaiko, the settlement was the center of a wider set of smaller settlements developed in the surrounding lowland areas. Many of the findings such as vases, clay statuettes, bronze artifacts, tools, weapons and jewellery have been transported and exhibited at the nearby Archaeological Museum of Patras.
Archaeological Museum of Patras
  • 40m
  • Admission ticket not included
It houses collections about the history of Patras and the surrounding area from prehistory to the end of Roman times. The museum has four thematic sections, three of which are permanent and one is periodic: The first section of the museum contains items such as jewellery cosmetics and tools from the private life of the Romans. The second section its about the public life of the people in the area, around 1,500 B.C. and the third section of Necropolis is dedicated to tombs and items discovered in Patras and the greater region of Achaia, and it presents the burial architecture and its evolution from the prehistoric till the Roman times, not only by the items found but with the reconstruction of various types of tombs. Last but not least, the periodic section where various exhibits are taking place every year.
Castle of Patras
  • 25m
The fort remained in constant use thereafter, even until the Second World War. In the Byzantine period, it was besieged by Slavs, Saracens, Normans and many others, but it never fell. In particular, the successful repulsion of a great siege of 805 AD by the Arabs and the Slavs was attributed to the city's patron saint, St Andrew. In 1205, in the aftermath of the Fourth Crusade, it was taken over by the Franks, who strengthened it further, opening a moat on all three sides. The castle fell to the Ottoman Turks in 1458, and remained one of their main seats of power in the Peloponnese throughout their rule in Greece. Following independence, the castle remained in use by the Greek Army until after World War II. In 1973, the castle was turned over to the 6th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities. It is used nowadays for cultural events, especially during summer, and features a theatre with a capacity of 640 seats.
Achaia Clauss
  • 50m
  • Admission ticket not included
In 1859, Gustav Clauss, a representative of the Bavarian company Fels and Co., purchased an area of 240,000 m2 of land to Patras at an altitude of 500 meters. In 1920 it passed into the ownership of Antonopoulos, and from then on, with a slight pause during the German occupation in World War II, the company developed rapidly. A major landmark was in 55 when the company took on Konstantinos Antonopoulos, who installed new machines in the winery and recruited a team of specialists. In 1983 the company launched their new bottling plant. Since its establishment the site has always been a popular destination for visitors and continues to be so. The Achaia Clauss winery has many storage areas with a total capacity of about 7500 tones. The main ones are the storage of old Mavrodaphne wine, the storage of table wines, the subterranean tanks, and the Danielis storage room. In Achaia Clauss we will taste unique wines and we will learn about the rich history of this place throughout the time.
