Galle Face is a 5 ha (12 acres) ocean-side urban park, which stretches for 500 m (1,600 ft) along the coast, in the heart of Colombo, the financial and business capital of Sri Lanka. The promenade was initially laid out in 1859 by Governor Sir Henry George Ward, although the original Galle Face Green extended over a much larger area than is seen today. The Galle Face Green was initially used for horse racing and as a golf course, but was also used for cricket, polo, football, tennis and rugby.

Sri Kailawasanatan Swami Temple is a hidden kovil (temple) located behind Sri Lanka’s main railway station at Fort. Built during the Portuguese era, it was originally a family kovil and is known as the first Kovil, making it the oldest to be built in Colombo and an important heritage Hindu temple in Colombo. Although it is called Sri Kailawasanatan Swami Temple, many still identify it and mistake it as the kovil in the Captain’s Garden area.
As an Eswaran (Shiva) shrine, this kovil features statues, intricate carvings, and murals of the Hindu pantheon. This means visitors get an opportunity to see a host of statues, carvings and paintings dedicated to all gods in the religion, a truly inspiring experience.
