What you can expect

You begin your morning journey from Athens and head for the Isthmus of Corinth, where you make your first stop. You'll stand directly above the impressive canal, looking down at the vertical cliffs rising below you and feeling the energy of this unique engineering marvel. You have time for photos and a quick coffee before continuing.
Gradually, you leave Corinthia behind and enter mountainous Arcadia. The road becomes greener, with mountains and villages that seem to have stepped out of another era. You reach the small forest of Agia Theodora in Vasta, and you are immediately enveloped by the sound of water flowing from all around. The chapel emerges from the greenery, with its 17 trees jutting out from the roof as if embracing it. As you step inside, you feel the sweet tranquility of the place, and when you come out, you can walk along the stream or dip your hands into the crystal-clear water.
Then you continue on to Dimitsana and enter one of the most spectacular places in Greece, the Lousios Gorge. The road descends gently into the mountain and leads you to the point where you will walk along the small path to Prodromos Monastery. The view begins to “open up,” and suddenly you see the monastery literally clinging to the vertical cliff face. Upon reaching the entrance, the monks welcome you, and you walk along balconies that seem to hover over the gorge. You enter the katholikon, smell the incense, and behind you, you hear the wind passing through the rocks.
If you continue, you can also visit the Old Monastery of Philosopher – an experience that is even more “hidden.” You descend the path through dense shade, and when you arrive, you see the tiny monastery protected by a huge natural cave-dome. There, time seems to have stood still. You hear only the river in the distance and the birds echoing through the gorge.
After this spiritual journey, you can stop in Stemnitsa or Dimitsana for a meal. The villages are filled with stone mansions, smoking chimneys, and tavernas serving traditional dishes—warm soups, meat cooked in a clay pot, and rustic pies. You sit down, relax, and enjoy the atmosphere of one of the most beautiful villages in the Peloponnese.
On the way back, the sun is setting, and you have enjoyed a complete experience of nature, faith, history, and tranquility—all in a single day.
