Begin your adventure with a scenic drive through Oregon's lush county and state forests, crossing two Coastal Range mountain passes. Stop at a viewpoint, weather permitting, to take in the breathtaking landscape.
Arrive at Cannon Beach, a coastal gem with stunning beaches, dramatic features, rainforests, and charming shops. Learn about the history of the area, including the Clatsop tribe and other coastal peoples. Get recommendations for lunch and enjoy plenty of time to explore.
Visit the iconic Haystack Rock, featured in several films, including “The Goonies.” Get close enough for great photos, but remember that the rock itself is off-limits as a sensitive nesting area for seabirds.
Head to Ecola State Park, a unique coastal rainforest with old-growth Sitka spruce and Western hemlock trees. Spend time hiking up to a viewpoint overlooking another movie filming location, where beach scenes from “Twilight” were filmed. Choose to hike from 1-3 miles (2-5 km) in the forest.
On the way back, stop at a logging museum to see old tractors and equipment, grab a gift at the eclectic gift shop, and try one of their famous enormous cinnamon rolls. Pass through the Tillamook State Forest, noticing the diverse flora and fauna that thrive in the higher elevation mountain passes.
