Hi! I am Yu Noda, licensed tour guide and photographer!

This is 3-4 hours walking tour to experience two sides of Fukuoka in one tour—historic Hakata and modern Tenjin!

What makes this tour unique is that we don’t just visit sightseeing spots. We connect Fukuoka’s past with how people actually live today. Explore traditional streets, shrines, and local culture in Hakata, then discover the modern lifestyle, shopping, food, and atmosphere of Tenjin.

Along the way, I’ll share stories about Japanese history, religion, culture, and everyday life in a relaxed and friendly way. Ask me anything—from traditions and local food to what it’s really like living in Japan!

And instead of spending your trip taking photos, enjoy the moment. I’ll also be your photographer and capture natural photos of you throughout the experience.

It’s not just sightseeing—it’s a chance to understand Fukuoka, connect with local life, and take home great memories and photos.

To savor your visit to Ohori Japanese Garden, wander through the meticulously designed landscapes, admire the serene koi-filled ponds and traditional tea houses, partake in a peaceful tea ceremony, and immerse yourself in the harmonious blend of nature and culture that defines this exquisite garden, providing a tranquil escape in the heart of Fukuoka.

Kushida Shrine

At Kushida Shrine, travelers will explore the spiritual heart of Hakata. They will walk through the iconic torii gate and visit the historic main hall, learning how locals pray for good fortune and protection.

Tochoji Temple

At Tochoji Temple, travelers will visit one of Fukuoka’s most important Buddhist temples, founded in 806 by the monk Kukai. You will stand before the impressive Great Buddha (Daibutsu), the largest wooden seated Buddha statue in Japan, and feel its powerful presence.

Kawabatadori Shopping Street

At Kawabatadori Shopping Street, travelers will stroll through one of Hakata’s oldest shopping arcades. You will discover a charming mix of traditional shops, local sweets, souvenirs, and casual eateries. This lively yet nostalgic street offers a glimpse into Hakata’s local culture, history, and flavors all in one walk.

Step back in time and discover what everyday life was like in old Hakata at the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum. We’ll explore a traditional Japanese machiya townhouse and learn how local merchants and craftspeople lived and worked during the Meiji and Taisho periods. Inside, you can see historic household items, traditional tools, photographs, and exhibits that bring Hakata’s past to life. I’ll introduce you to Hakata’s unique local culture, traditional crafts, and famous festivals, including the Hakata Gion Yamakasa. Depending on the day, you may also have the chance to see traditional craftspeople demonstrating their skills. Rather than simply looking at old objects, we’ll use the museum to understand how ordinary people lived and how Hakata developed into the lively city we know today.

Tenjin Underground Shopping Center

Explore Tenjin Underground Shopping Street, known locally as “Tenchika,” and experience the modern side of Fukuoka! We’ll walk through this unique underground arcade lined with fashion stores, cafés, bakeries, restaurants, and local shops. I’ll introduce you to popular Japanese foods and sweets, point out interesting stores, and explain what locals actually buy and enjoy. It’s also a great place to talk about everyday life in Fukuoka—from local food and shopping culture to fashion, transportation, and how Tenjin became one of the city’s busiest commercial districts. Feel free to stop somewhere that catches your eye, grab a snack, or ask me for recommendations. Rather than simply walking through, we’ll use Tenchika as a fun way to experience modern local life and discover a side of Fukuoka beyond temples and historical sights.

Kego Shrine

Visit Kego Shrine, a peaceful Shinto shrine hidden among the busy streets and modern buildings of Tenjin. We’ll step away from the shopping district and explore the shrine grounds while learning about basic Shinto traditions, how Japanese people pray at shrines, and the role shrines still play in everyday life today. I’ll explain the meaning behind features you’ll see, such as the torii gate, purification area, main shrine, and protective charms. If you’d like, you can also experience the traditional way of making a prayer yourself. It’s a great place to experience the contrast between modern Fukuoka and traditional Japanese spirituality—all right in the heart of the city.
