What you can expect

Discover one of Patagonia’s most iconic experiences: walking on the Perito Moreno Glacier with crampons, exploring forest trails, sailing across Lake Argentino, and admiring the glacier from multiple viewpoints. This full-day tour offers an immersive and unforgettable way to experience one of the world’s few advancing glaciers.

Important restrictions: This activity is suitable only for travelers between 8 and 65 years old. It is not allowed for pregnant travelers, people with reduced mobility, coordination difficulties, or any cardiovascular, respiratory, or circulatory conditions. It is also not suitable for participants with a BMI of 30 or higher. Guides may interrupt the activity if a traveler shows difficulty walking safely.

Your adventure begins at Puerto Bajo Las Sombras, where you’ll board a boat for a 20-minute navigation along the Rico Arm, facing the glacier’s stunning south wall. Once you reach the opposite shore, professional bilingual mountain guides will welcome you, divide the group by language, and lead you through a beautiful forest path toward the glacier.

The trekking experience lasts about 3 hours, including roughly 1.5 hours walking directly on the ice. With crampons and helmet provided on-site, you’ll explore a white and blue world filled with deep crevasses, small lagoons, meltwater streams, and unique formations shaped by wind and time. The terrain includes continuous ups and downs, making this a true adventure through one of nature’s most impressive landscapes. After the ice walk, you’ll return to the refuge area and enjoy about one hour of free time to eat your packed lunch before taking the boat back to the port.

This excursion may also begin with the visit to the walkways depending on the assigned schedule. From the balconies, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the glacier’s north and south faces, perfect for photos and contemplation. If you book the version with transfers from El Calafate, transportation will pick you up at your hotel early in the morning.

What to bring: warm and comfortable clothing, waterproof jacket and pants, gloves, trekking boots or sports shoes with laces (no heels or platform shoes), sunglasses, sunscreen, packed lunch, water, and cash in Argentine pesos to pay the entrance fee to Los Glaciares National Park. Food and drinks are not sold in the minitrekking area.

What’s included: professional bilingual mountain guide, boat navigation, minitrekking equipment (crampons and helmet), and access to the walkways.

Not included: national park entrance fee, meals or drinks, transfers (unless selected), or extras.

This activity operates from July to May and sells out quickly between November and February. Booking in advance is strongly recommended to secure your spot on this extraordinary Patagonian experience.
