What you can expect
Valdés Peninsula is a Natural World Heritage Site, declared as such by UNESCO in 1999. At the entrance is the El Desempe ño checkpoint, where tickets are paid.
We will enjoy a must-see stop at the Carlos Ameghino Interpretation Center and tour its different rooms that invite us to learn about the history, geology, and characteristics of the local fauna and flora, as the gateway to the Valdés Peninsula. This place has a vantage point, where we can observe the Gulfs Nuevo and San José from above, discovering the first signs of an unparalleled geography that opens up before our eyes.
We continue on to Puerto Pirámides, where we will enjoy a cruise to encounter the imposing Southern Right Whale, an activity that takes place on rigid-hull boats and lasts approximately 1.5 hours. (Service available from June to December). At lunchtime, we can enjoy the haute cuisine that characterizes this picturesque tourist village at one of its restaurants and confectioneries. The most sought-after dishes are paellas, fried squid, seafood casseroles, and various seafood dishes, among other traditional options.
We'll continue our journey and head inland along the peninsula's gravel roads towards Caleta Valdés, while we activate our senses to identify guanacos, maras, martinetas, and choiques, among the wild animals that blend in with the landscape.
Once in La Caleta, we can enjoy its trails and cliffs, from which we will be dazzled by the presence of southern elephant seals, which choose, among other places in the province, to settle at the eastern end of the peninsula. In addition to spotting cormorants and other bird species, we'll be delighted by the blue sea and the immensity of having the Patagonian Sea itself before our eyes.We begin the drop-off in the afternoon.
