Discover the colonial city from a different perspective, focusing on its artistic and cultural scene.
On this walking tour, which lasts approximately 2 hours, the aim is to learn a little more about the arts, crafts, and artistic movements that have made and continue to make Paraty such a special and welcoming place.
Our activity begins at Paraty's most iconic landmark, the Capela de Santa Rita de Cássia. After meeting, the guide will give a brief explanation of the tour, and we will begin by visiting the church, which is also a museum of sacred art. Its collections include works from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries that were used in churches in the region during the colonial period.
During the tour, we will visit craft shops and independent studios that are part of the city's artistic identity. The aim is to learn about the creative process, support local businesses, and empower local artists and producers. There is no obligation to make purchases; the visits are focused on the cultural experience and interaction with the creators. The city has a strong tradition of handicrafts, including maréchal-de-l'Île paper, couchée paper, basketry, ceramics, painting, theater, and music.
Afterward, we will visit the Paraty House of Culture, a center for interpreting the local heritage.
We will conclude our tour on Rua do Comércio, where artisans practicing various techniques, including Indigenous and Quilombola crafts, are concentrated.
