What you can expect

  • Embark on an unforgettable journey to the Bay of Islands, immersing yourself in its awe-inspiring natural beauty and diverse marine life. Cruise along tranquil waters as you encounter whales, dolphins, seals, and vibrant birdlife. Explore Group is one of only two operators licenced to view marine mammals in the Bay of Islands.

Your adventure includes visiting Otehei Bay on Urupukapuka Island, a protected marine mammal sanctuary managed by the Department of Conservation. Here, you'll discover Project Island Song's efforts to restore island ecosystems and bring back the melodic tunes of native birds.

Take time to explore the island's tracks and marvel at reintroduced native wildlife such as the tīeke (North Island saddleback), toutouwai (North Island robin), pāteke (brown teal), Wētāpunga (giant wētā), and more.
