Paderborn is famous for its melange of medieval sites with contemporaneous architecture. The main building’s architecture will set you back in time. In the early 19th century an apothecary called Friedrich Sertürner was the first one to isolate the compound out of opium. It is also the birthplace of Heinz Nixdorf, a German pioneer of the computer age who founded the company in this city and where its headquarters was until the company closed its doors in 1990.
