Discover one of Hardanger’s most unusual hiking experiences on this full-day guided fjord-to-mountain adventure from Øystese.

Your day begins with a scenic RIB boat ride deep into the narrow Fyksesund fjord to Botnen, a small hamlet with no road connection. Reached only by water, this remote starting point sets the tone for a hike few travellers ever experience.

From Botnen, follow a historic mountain trail once used by local farmers travelling between the fjord and their summer farms in the highlands. The route climbs steeply through Botnadalen before opening onto a high ridge with sweeping views over Fyksesund, the surrounding mountains and, on clear days, the Hardangerfjord and Folgefonna glacier.

Along the way, hear stories about the landscape, local traditions and life in this isolated fjord community. The hike ends in Hovland, where a minibus takes you back to Øystese.

This tour is designed for experienced hikers with a good level of fitness. Expect a demanding full-day route with steep terrain, uneven ground and approximately 1,150–1,200 metres of ascent.
