With almost 300 artworks, the Rose Castle tells the story of the occupation of Norway during the second world war, and the basic principles of democracy, rule of law and humanism that were then put out of force.
The core principles of the Rose Castle is to remind us that all human beings are born free and equal, the contrast to what we experienced during the years of occupation.

The Rose Castle was featured in TIME Magazine's list: “The Worlds 100 Greatest Places” in 2021, and has won several awards.

Free audioguide available in Norwegian, English and German.

Enjoy a hot chocolate, coffee, Norwegian waffle with brown cheese and more in our small cafe inside 'Roseslottets Storstue' by the entrance.
