What you can expect

  • Discover sumo through an immersive cultural experience led by former professional rikishi.

Watch powerful live bouts from just a few meters away and feel the speed, impact, and strength of sumo up close. During the show, you will also learn about sumo rules, rituals, etiquette, history, and traditions in an entertaining format designed for international visitors.

After the show, step into the dohyō and learn basic sumo movements such as shiko and suri-ashi directly from former rikishi.

Guests who wish to participate may also get the chance to challenge a former professional wrestler in a friendly Sumo Match Experience. Depending on the program, this may be one-on-one or involve family members or groups working together against a rikishi. Participation is optional, so guests who prefer to watch and learn can still fully enjoy the experience.

We aim to give as many guests as possible the opportunity to participate. If the number of participants is especially high, challengers may be selected by lottery for safety and scheduling. Children are given priority whenever possible.

Our venue uses a specially designed mat-based dohyō built to the same dimensions as a professional sumo ring. This makes the experience suitable for first-time participants, women, and children.

Before the show, guests can freely try on a traditional Japanese haori and take photos. Premium Kimono Dressing is also available as a paid add-on.

For those who want to experience even more Japanese culture, a SAMURAI Experience featuring iaido demonstrations with real Japanese swords may also be available on selected dates and plans.

Optional meal plans include Chanko Nabe, the traditional hot pot associated with sumo wrestlers, or Wagyu Sukiyaki. Our chanko is inspired by the flavors enjoyed at the sumo stable where our former rikishi once trained. Karaage, yakitori, takoyaki, and other dishes are also available to order. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available.

Regular show times are 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM. The main sumo show lasts approximately 50 minutes, followed by the interactive sumo experience and commemorative photo session. Please arrive about 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Families are welcome. Children aged 7–12 receive discounted tickets, while children aged 6 and under enter free of charge.

At the end of the experience, take a commemorative photo with the former professional rikishi in the dohyō.

Ochiizumibeya is located near Rinku Town Station, just one train stop from Kansai International Airport. Large luggage storage is available, making it convenient for travelers on their arrival or departure day.

More than just watching sumo, this experience lets you see it, learn it, and experience one of Japan’s most iconic traditions for yourself.
