What you can expect

  • Leave San José behind and travel into the hills of Costa Rica's Orosi Valley with an experienced guide. Visit Lankester Botanical Garden, explore its extensive collections of orchids and tropical plants, look for sloths among the trees, and discover the historic town of Orosi.

    Your day begins with pickup at your selected San José hotel. Travel through the Central Valley and into the Orosi Valley, passing coffee plantations, sugar cane fields and mountain landscapes along the way.

    At Lankester Botanical Garden, follow the garden paths and explore collections of orchids, cacti, succulents and other tropical plants. The garden was established as a botanical garden in 1973 and is part of the University of Costa Rica.

    Keep an eye out for sloths and other wildlife among the trees as you explore. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.

    After visiting the garden, continue to the town of Orosi to see the historic Iglesia de San José de Orosi. The church dates from the Spanish colonial period and is recognized as an important example of Costa Rica's colonial heritage. Costa Rica's Ministry of Culture identifies the church as having been built in 1767 and later declared part of the country's historic-architectural heritage.

    Enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant before beginning the return journey to San José.
