It is believed that the Ananuri fortress was founded in the 16th century. In the first half of the 19th century, a Russian garrison was located here, which guarded the Georgian Military Highway. And in 1829 the fortress was visited by A.S. Pushkin during his trip to Georgia. Currently, the fortress is open to everyone. Entrance to the territory is free. Fasanauri is the center of the historical and geographical region of Mtiuleti. According to legend, this place was one of the centers of trade in ancient times. It was this fact that caused its name, probably associated with the word "price".
