What you can expect

  • Guided tour about the creation and use of the historic rock passages over the past 700 years

Over the course of many centuries, the citizens of Nuremberg dug vaults and passages into the bright red sandstone beneath their city. The sprawling rock cellar complex was first mentioned in a document in 1380. Over all these many years, the cellars were primarily used for maturing and storing beer – especially Nuremberg's red city beer.

Today, the Altstadthof house brewery once again uses a small part of the branching, labyrinthine cellar system for maturing and storing specialty beers and beer brandies.
As part of the guided tours, you will, of course, also visit the house brewery and the whisky distillery. The specialties, especially the original Nuremberg red beer, can then be sampled in the tasting boutique, in the Bräustüberl (brewery tavern), in the restaurant or in the brewery's Schmelztiegel cellar bar. Come by—it's worth it!
