What you can expect

  • The Candle Procession is one of the most iconic rites in Fátima. During the major pilgrimages, which take place almost all year round, this procession carries the statue of Our Lady to the altar in the Prayer Area. The procession follows a route through the Prayer Area, returning to the Chapel of the Apparitions. Established in Cova da Iria in the second half of the 1920s, the Candlelight Procession originates from and is inspired by the tradition of the Sanctuary of Lourdes in France. In Fátima, it directs pilgrims to the symbolism of light, which is an expression of the divine in the apparitions of Fátima.
