Tour itinerary

Your Costa Rica to Nicaragua adventure begins with hotel pickup, where our guides will accompany you throughout the journey and assist with the border crossing process. They will help with all immigration procedures to make the crossing as smooth and stress-free as possible. The border crossing usually takes about 30 minutes, although waiting times may vary depending on the season, holidays, weekends, and border traffic.

Once in Nicaragua, we’ll enjoy a traditional breakfast at a lakeside restaurant with beautiful views of Lake Nicaragua and the impressive Ometepe Island.

Catarina viewpoint (30 minutes)

Our first stop is the stunning Catarina viewpoint, offering panoramic views of the Apoyo Crater Lagoon, Granada, and Lake Nicaragua. You’ll have time to take photos, walk around the viewpoint, and browse local artisan shops for handmade souvenirs and Nicaraguan crafts.

Masaya Volcano National Park (15 minutes)

Next, we visit the famous Masaya Volcano, one of the few active volcanoes in the world where visitors can safely view the crater. You’ll experience the dramatic volcanic landscape and observe the gases rising from this remarkable natural wonder. Time at the crater viewpoint is approximately 5–10 minutes, following National Park regulations.

Granada Colonial City (2.5 hours)

We continue to the beautiful colonial city of Granada, known for its colorful streets, historic architecture, and rich cultural heritage. Our visit includes La Merced Church, where guests may climb the bell tower for spectacular views of Granada (1 dollar admission, subject to availability), Mombacho Volcano, and Lake Nicaragua.

You’ll also enjoy a traditional Nicaraguan chocolate experience, learning about the chocolate-making process and sampling authentic local chocolate. Afterward, you’ll have free time to explore the city, visit local shops, relax in the central plaza, or take an optional horse-drawn carriage ride (additional cost). A traditional Nicaraguan lunch at a local restaurant is included during our visit.

Lake Nicaragua (45 minutes)

Our final experience is a scenic boat tour through the famous Islets of Granada, a beautiful archipelago created by ancient volcanic activity. Enjoy peaceful lake views, lush tropical scenery, and the unique atmosphere of this unforgettable landscape.

After the boat tour, we will begin our return journey to Costa Rica.
