Fort Amherst Lighthouse

Drive through the Southside of St Johns,, view the Outer Battery, visit Newfoundlands first lighthouse at Fort Amherst. Learn about chain rock, the steel underwater fence protecting St Johns Harbour during WW2. View the vaults used to store wartime amunition as well as Newman Wines vaults of 300 years ago.

Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site

The most easterly point in North America. Stand with your back to the water and the entire continent is in front of you. Visit the gift shop, visitors, center. Enter the lighthouse which is restored to the way it was when it was lived in by the keepers. Walk through the war tunnels to the "disappearing cannons used during the war. Visit the scenic viewpoints overlooking the Atlantic ocean where soldiers once scanned for enemy ships Today this is where whales are often sighted offshore.

Petty Harbour

Quidi Vidi Battery

Signal Hill

The long winding road to Signal Hill. Stunning views of the Ocean, the city and the narrows. Walk to the edge of the earth. Signal Hill is the site of the first ever wireless transatlantic transmission received by Marconi from Cornwall England in 1901. Signalman perched on Signal Hill and examined the ocean for ships headed toward the port of St. John's. Flag signals flown on the hill communicated the names of arriving ships to locals and soldiers below. View the historic artillery as well as the " noon day gun". Possibly visit with our friendly Newfoundland Dog who is almost always on site.

Cabot Tower

Built in the late gothic-revival style, the tower was constructed in 1900 as a monument to John Cabots 1497 voyage to North America, and the 60th anniversary of Queen Victorias reign. Used for signaling functions until 1958, located on Signal Hill - where Marconi received the first ever wireless transmission. Enter the tower and climb to the top for breathtaking views.
