What you can expect

This immersive walking experience begins near Nara Station, at VIE DE FRANCE Nara. Before we set off, guests are kindly asked to purchase their own lunch here and bring it along, as we will enjoy a relaxed lunch on the go, surrounded by nature later in the day.
After a short bus ride, the experience begins gently, walking through beautiful traditional gardens that immediately set the tone. Carefully shaped landscapes, seasonal colors, and quiet paths invite you to slow down and leave the modern world behind. From here, the walk naturally flows into Nara Park, where open spaces, ancient trees, and the calm presence of the sacred deer create a unique sense of harmony between nature and belief.
Reaching Tōdai-ji is a powerful moment. Standing before the Great Buddha is both humbling and grounding, while the surrounding temples, forested paths, and quiet corners offer space for reflection. Rather than rushing, we take time to absorb the atmosphere—stories, symbolism, and small details that reveal the spiritual depth of Nara as Japan’s first capital.
As the journey continues, we move deeper into the forested areas surrounding Kasuga Taisha. Without entering the shrine itself, we walk through its sacred environment, where mossy paths, ancient trees, and the presence of countless stone lanterns create a quiet, almost timeless feeling. It’s a moment where nature and spirituality feel inseparable.
Along the way, the city gradually fades into greenery. You’ll encounter smaller shrines hidden in nature, peaceful viewpoints with wide panoramas, and moments of stillness that make this experience feel personal and unhurried. There are also opportunities to meet locals and discover handcrafted products, offering insight into how tradition continues through everyday life.
The walk concludes near Nakatanidō, famous for its freshly made Nara mochi. Depending on the day and opening schedule, the shop may be closed, and the live mochi-pounding performance or tasting cannot be guaranteed. Regardless, the surrounding area provides a lively and authentic ending to the experience.
This tour is not about ticking off landmarks. It’s about connection—to nature, to history, and to the quiet rhythm of Nara. You’ll leave with more than photos: you’ll carry a deeper, personal sense of Japan’s ancient heart.
