Depart from Munich on a full-day tour to Hitler’s mountain retreat, located in the mountains above Berchtesgaden.
Dokumentationszentrum Obersalzberg
The Dokumentationszentrum Obersalzberg is a historical museum that presents the history of Hitler and the members of the Nazi regime. On the lower level, you can explore a bunker that was part of an enormous underground network, sections of which are accessible to visitors.
Near the bunker stood Hitler’s house, where he maintained his second-most important headquarters after Berlin and held meetings. The house no longer exists today. It was damaged during World War II, later burned down by the SS, and its remaining structures were eventually completely demolished by the Americans. In the museum, you can also see a shell associated with the bombing of this area by American and Allied forces.
Eagle's Nest
You will then visit the Eagle’s Nest, which was presented to Hitler as a gift for his 50th birthday in 1939. Its construction took 13 months. To reach the entrance, you will pass through a tunnel carved into the rock and then take a lift up through the mountain.
Königssee
Afterwards, you will visit Königssee, one of Bavaria’s most beautiful alpine lakes. Surrounded by towering mountains, the lake is famous for its crystal-clear, emerald-green water and spectacular natural scenery. It is an ideal place to admire the Alpine landscape and take memorable photographs.
Ramsau – St Sebastian Church
Finally, we will stop in Ramsau, at the Church of St Sebastian. This location is a favourite among photographers thanks to its breathtaking views. The picturesque church stands beside a mountain stream, with the majestic Alps forming a stunning backdrop. The combination of traditional Bavarian architecture, flowing water and dramatic mountain scenery makes this one of the most beautiful and recognisable photographic spots in the region
The Eagle's Nest is closed in winter: please read the “Know before you go” section.
