The day before the tour, you will be provided with the meeting time and location. Accompanied by the volcanology guides, you will proceed to the cable car to purchase your ticket and ascend to an elevation of 8,202 feet (2,500 meters). Once you reach an altitude of 8,202 feet, you will hike across the ancient lava flows to reach the Barbagallo craters at an altitude of 9,583 feet, the site of the 2002–2003 eruption. Here, you will also see the recent lava flows from 2025, which attracted thousands of tourists. Finally, on the way back from the hike, you will pass by the 2001 crater to behold its immense majesty.
You will be accompanied and guided by licensed volcanologist or mountain guides at all times.
The trek lasts approximately 6 hours, covering about 6 kilometers (3.7 miles), with a total elevation gain of 500 meters (1,640 feet) and a total elevation loss of 500 meters (1,640 feet). At the start of the trek, you will be provided with hiking boots, socks, a wind jacket, trekking poles, and a protective helmet. You will also receive a 20% discount on the purchase of bread, snacks, and beverages.
