What you can expect

Join an award-winning food writer and Michelin Star-trained Chef for a hybrid cooking class and 3-course tasting menu. Each course will tell the savory story of a different Montreal food culture - Caribbean, Asian, Middle Eastern, and/or Quebecois. But this is not your normal follow-a-menu affair…each guest will collaborate on one course, learning the professional techniques behind creating a balanced and beautiful - for example, searing, pan-roasting, oven poaching and plating. Guests may add a matching 3-glass matching tasting of artisanal wineries (and some superb craft beer) or a non-alcoholic cocktail and rare/vintage tea tasting as an added-price option.

A bit of lip service on how to cook. Learn a bit about sauces and chopping An ok meal It’s in the chefs house - so a bit strange And don’t turn up 10mins early as he won’t let you in!

The Cooking Class & Tasting was incredible! Chef Rob communicated frequently prior ot the class via Text (very helpful!!). Chef Rob was masterful and funny in teaching us about sauces, plating, paired adult beverages, and cutting skills. We received precise instructions in the relaxed, fun atmosphere of the Chef’s home. After all the prep, he served the three couples. It was a wonderful 5-Star afternoon! AND, we were fortunate to become friends with two couples from Montreal!!

Do this if you want to learn techniques but not if you want to have fun. Lots of pressure to upgrade $$ before the class and a direct request for gratuities for "the team," though we only had contact with the instructor. We were admonished with little frivolity for our techniques and the spirit was one of listening to him tell us his experiences and not one where we could share or talk to each other. The food was good, but tiny portions, and the we found the beer he said was $100 for less than $10 at the store around the corner. At the end of the meal, we were rushed out so another class could start.

It was excellent! Chef Rob was great at teaching in a practical way and the food was delicious! The pairings were very well matched with interesting flavours, particularly the non-alcoholic tea pairing featuring very rare flavours that I'd never tried before. I would definitely recommend this to any home cooks who want to broaden their skills a bit.
