Running Tour MVD invites you to explore Montevideo on foot, passing by historic sites and iconic landmarks while listening to anecdotes and fascinating details about our city and our culture.
We'll start our tour from Plaza Independencia, the most important square in the country, providing information about the buildings and landmarks located there (Monument to Artigas, Mausoleum, Palacio Salvo, Palacio Estévez, Puerta de la Ciudadela, and Teatro Solís). We'll then take Peatonal Sarandí to enter the beautiful Old Town, arriving at Plaza Constitución with its fountain, the Cathedral, the Cabildo, Club Uruguay, and the Andes 1972 Museum. We'll then continue to Plaza Zabala with its Palacio Taranco and then to the Mercado del Puerto. This first leg is done at a walking or slow jogging pace due to the number of pedestrians in the area. From the Port Market, we'll do two stretches at an easy pace, chatting as we go, to Artigas Train Station and the Legislative Palace, both about 2 kilometers away. In front of this majestic palace, we'll take photos, talk about its construction and its unusual history, and also take a break to hydrate and rest. From there, we'll head to the city's main avenue (18 de Julio) along Calle Fernández Crespo, which has a slight uphill stretch, but we'll take it at a leisurely pace. The last 3 kilometers run along our main avenue, passing by the Faculty of Law, the National Library, Tristán Narvaja Street, Plaza de los Treinta y Tres, the Municipal Palace, the Carlos Gardel monument, Plaza Cagancha (with its historic Column of Peace), and Plaza Fabini with its famous Entrevero monument.
The entire route takes approximately 2.5 hours and includes a few minutes of warm-up, mobility, and running technique exercises beforehand, as well as stretching exercises at the end.
