It played a significant role to the Greek revolution of 1821 against the Ottomans, having a hidden school teaching the greek language (reading/writting) to many people. The monastery’s printing press printed some of the important scripts that were spread among the country during the efforts of liberating the country. Worth to mention the silver-embroidered holly icon of St.Nicholas, handcrafted by Leontia nun
