Sótano de Popocatl: The Crystal Abyss from Mexico City
Get ready for one of Mexico's most impressive caving and adventure experiences. We'll set off early from Mexico City for the Sierra de Zongolica, a verdant paradise where the earth opens up to reveal ancient secrets.
Meeting and Departure Point
Our adventure begins at a strategic and easily accessible point in Mexico City. After a comfortable drive, we'll arrive at the local community, where we'll prepare the technical gear. Here, you'll receive a detailed safety briefing and we'll fit you with professional gear (harness, helmet, and descenders) so you feel 100% safe before taking on the challenge.
The Descent: 70 meters of pure adrenaline
You'll feel the thrill in your bones as you approach the edge of the cliff face. You'll begin a 70-meter rappel: the first few meters are in contact with the rock face, but soon you'll find yourself in a spectacular free rappel, suspended in the vastness of the cavern. As you descend, the sound of the underground waterfall becomes deafening, and the play of light filtering down from the surface will take your breath away.
A hidden world beneath your feet
Once at the bottom of the cave, you'll explore a unique ecosystem that few have the privilege of seeing. You'll walk alongside an impressive underground waterfall that disappears into a mysterious natural siphon. You'll be able to see ancient rock formations, stalagmites, and the force of nature in its purest and wildest state. It is the perfect backdrop for epic photos and a total connection with the surroundings.
Return and Local Cuisine
After exploring the bowels of the Earth, we'll set off on an uphill hike along local trails to stretch our legs and enjoy the landscape above ground. As a perfect finish, we'll have time to enjoy a typical meal of the region (optional), supporting the local economy and recharging our batteries before the return trip to Mexico City, where our service will end at the same point of departure.
