Sótano de Popocatl: The glass abyss from Mexico City
Get ready for one of the most impressive caving and adventure experiences in Mexico. We will depart early from Mexico City for the Sierra de Zongolica, a green paradise where the earth opens up to reveal ancient secrets.
Meeting Point and Departure
Our adventure begins at a strategic and easily accessible point in Mexico City. After a comfortable drive, we will arrive at the local community where we will prepare the technical gear. Here you will receive a detailed safety briefing, and we will fit you with the professional gear (harness, helmet, and descenders) so that you feel 100% safe before starting the challenge.
The Descent: 70 meters of pure adrenaline
You'll feel the thrill as you approach the edge of the abyss. You'll begin a 70-meter rappel: the first few meters are in contact with the rockface, but soon you'll find yourself on a spectacular free rappel, suspended in the vastness of the cavern. As you descend, the sound of the underground waterfall becomes deafening, and the light displays filtering down from the surface will take your breath away.
A hidden world beneath your feet
Once at the bottom of the cavern, you'll explore a unique ecosystem that few have the privilege of seeing. You'll walk alongside an impressive underground waterfall that disappears into a mysterious natural siphon. You'll be able to observe ancient rock formations, stalagmites, and the force of nature in its purest and wildest state. It's the perfect backdrop for epic photos and a total connection with the surroundings.
The Return and Local Gastronomy
After exploring the bowels of the Earth, we'll begin an uphill walk along local trails to stretch our legs and enjoy the landscape above ground. To finish on a high note, we'll have time to share a typical meal of the region (optional), supporting the local economy and recharging our batteries before the return trip to Mexico City, where our service will end at the same starting point.
