What you can expect

Experience the rich history of Malacca with a day of exploration and sightseeing that brings out the best of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your expert guide shows you unique sights and tells stories from the land's Malay people, Chinese and Indian immigrants, and the Portuguese, Dutch, and British.

The day starts with a ride out of Kuala Lumpur and down to the Malaysian coast, where you get a look at the region that has been a crossroad between the East and West for millennia. Your guide explains the history of this first European outpost on the Malay Peninsula, dating back to the Portuguese conquest in 1511. Discover how Chinese and Malay traditions combined to form Malacca's distinct Baba Nyonya culture and how Indian influence gave rise to the Chitty community.

Along with the oldest Chinese and Hindu temples in Malaysia, this tour takes you by the country's oldest Catholic church, the rows of historic houses on Heeren Street, and the charming storefronts on Jonker Street. Check out the Dutch architecture of the Stadthuys, the central square along the Malacca River, and the ruined Portuguese fortress of A Famosa.

You also get an introduction to some of Malacca's living heritage as your guide explains how traditional trades have endured through the city's rapid modernization. Try out the unique flavors of Malaccan food from some favorite vendors along the old city streets before you depart for the ride back to Kuala Lumpur.
