What you can expect
Start your morning before dawn with a comfortable hotel pick-up in our 4x4 from anywhere on the island. As we wind our way up Madeira’s mountain roads, the stars above and the quiet valleys below set the scene for an unforgettable adventure.
When we reach Pico do Arieiro, the island’s third-highest peak at 1,818 metres, the real magic begins. Watch the sunrise above a sea of clouds as you sip warm tea or coffee and enjoy local biscuits prepared by your guide (Jimmy). Every morning is different here, but each one is breathtaking in its own way.
After sunrise, join Jimmy for a peaceful hike along the famous PR1 trail, known as the “Stairs of Heaven.” This scenic route offers dramatic views of volcanic peaks and deep valleys that stretch all the way to the ocean. If weather conditions make the PR1 trail unsafe, we’ll take you instead to one of our favourite alternative routes such as Ponta de São Lourenço, the island’s easternmost point, with equally stunning views and landscapes.
The hike is moderate and allows plenty of time to take photos, enjoy the views, and learn about the island’s nature and traditions.
With small groups, friendly guides and hotel pick-up and drop-off included anywhere on Madeira, this is the perfect way to start your day - calm, refreshing and full of natural beauty.
