Catch your first waves in Lourinhã on a beginner-friendly 2-hour group surf lesson at Praia da Areia Branca. Whether you’re joining solo, with friends, or as a family, this session is designed to be fun, active, and approachable—guided by local instructors who share surfing skills and beach culture in a clear, encouraging way.
Start with an easy introduction on land. Your instructor explains the essentials: a short history of surfing, how the equipment works, and how to read the ocean. You’ll learn the basics of tides, currents, and waves, plus how the local coastline affects conditions and where to find the best spots.
Then it’s time to practice the techniques that matter most for beginners. Learn how to position yourself on the board, paddle efficiently, sit, turn, and safely move toward the line-up. You’ll rehearse the take-off (standing up) on the sand first, then head into the water to try your first waves in the white water. As confidence grows, you’ll work on improving your take-off, controlling the board, and making your first turns—building toward an introduction to unbroken waves when conditions allow.
With a small group size, you’ll get hands-on feedback and plenty of attempts. By the end of the lesson, you’ll have a solid foundation, a better understanding of the ocean, and (very likely) that first “I stood up!” moment.
