What you can expect
Experience the quiet beauty of Lapland’s wilderness on a canoeing adventure along the Kapsajoki River, one of the region’s hidden paddling gems. This scenic 19 km journey from Korpela Bridge to Lintula takes you through remote forests, open sandbanks, and gently winding river landscapes far from roads and crowds.
The Kapsajoki is a shallow wilderness river with a naturally flowing character. Along this section, you’ll encounter calm stretches, flowing currents, and small, easy rapids. During periods of low water, you may need to step out and guide the canoe over shallow sections, adding a small touch of adventure along the way.
The trip is ideal for paddlers who already have some canoeing experience and want to try faster flowing water for the first time in a safe and guided environment. It also suits more experienced paddlers looking for a scenic and rewarding day on a remote wilderness river.
The adventure begins in Levi, with a comfortable 45-minute transfer to the starting point. Led by an experienced local guide, you’ll paddle downstream at a relaxed pace, learning how to read the river, handle your canoe, and enjoy the rhythm of the water.
Along the way, we stop on a scenic riverside sandbank for a campfire lunch. Enjoy fresh sandwiches and grilled sausages by the fire — weather and forest fire warnings permitting — while soaking in the peaceful Arctic surroundings. Fishing enthusiasts are welcome to bring their own gear and purchase a fishing license if they wish to cast a line in the wilderness.
The total duration of the trip is approximately 5–7 hours, depending on water conditions and group pace. After reaching the endpoint at Lintula Bridge, a 30-minute transfer brings us back to Levi, rounding off a full day of river adventure.
This wilderness canoeing experience on the Kapsajoki River is a perfect blend of nature, gentle adventure, and authentic Lapland atmosphere — a memorable way to explore the Arctic landscape from the water.
