Explore the western edge of Lesvos, the quietest and most unlikely part of the island, on a private tour. Follow the road past Moni Ypsilou, an 11th-century monastery perched on the rim of an extinct volcano, and into the Petrified Forest, a UNESCO-listed natural monument where entire trees, buried by volcanic ash twenty million years ago, have turned to stone.
From there, the road drops to Sigri, a small fishing village at the westernmost point of the island. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the harbor and admire the boats. Then, head east along the southern coast to Skala Eressos, birthplace of Sappho, where a long pebble beach and a handful of tavernas make it easy to stay longer than planned.
