This easy 34 km e-bike tour starts in Lecce. Begin your adventure by cycling through the narrow alleys of Lecce's old town. After a scenic 13-kilometer ride through the peaceful countryside, reach your first stop: the charming fortified village of Acaya.
Explore the impressive Castello di Acaya, one of the finest examples of Renaissance military architecture in southern Italy. Walk through its massive stone walls, bastions, and inner courtyards as you uncover the history of this strategic stronghold.
Next, step off your bike and step back in time at the historic Castello di Acquarica, where tradition is still alive in the hands of local artisans. Take part in a hands-on workshop dedicated to the ancient craft of reed weaving—an art that has been passed down through generations in Salento and is still used today to create beautiful, functional baskets.
Guided by a local expert, learn how to skillfully weave natural giunco fibers and create your own small handmade piece—such as a coaster or mini pot—to take home as a meaningful souvenir of your journey.
Pause your ride and descend into the fascinating world beneath the surface at the Frantoio Ipogeo di Vernole, a hidden gem that tells the story of Salento’s deep connection to olive oil. Led by a local expert, explore an ancient underground mill carved into the rock, where olive oil production once thrived far from the heat above.
Continue your ride into the heart of the countryside for a truly intimate and authentic experience at Masseria 5 Santi. Here, be warmly welcomed into the home of Signora Lina, the owner of the masseria, who will host you for a personal olive oil tasting experience unlike any other.
Seated in her home, Lina will guide you through the entire journey of olive oil production—from the ancient olive trees that surround the property to the harvesting and pressing process, all the way to the flavors and aromas of her exceptional extra virgin olive oil.
You will then cycle back to Lecce via a different route. The tour finishes back in Lecce.
