Perkara yang anda boleh jangka

  • La Paz changes after dark — but not in just one way.

Some people are finishing work. Others are beginning a night shift. Street grills appear, friends meet for a drink, vendors keep working and ordinary life continues beside some of the city's more difficult realities.

This isn't a nightlife tour, and it isn't simply a food tour. Through street food, people, a panoramic viewpoint and a local drink, you'll explore different sides of La Paz after dark.

SAN PEDRO — EVERYDAY LIFE & CONTRASTS

Begin around San Pedro Square. Rather than focusing on what happens inside the prison, look at the life around it: people meeting, eating, working and crossing the square as part of their normal routines.

It's an introduction to one of the ideas that follows us through the evening: very different realities can exist in the same place.

ANTICUCHO — THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE GRILL

As evening arrives, anticucho grills become part of the streetscape. Taste marinated beef heart grilled over charcoal and served with potato and a peanut-based sauce.

But this stop goes beyond the food. Discover some of the layered histories connected with anticucho and learn about the women — anticucheras — whose evening work forms part of La Paz's street-food scene.

KILLI KILLI — API ABOVE THE CITY

Pick up a warm api morado with pastel and take a taxi to Killi Killi viewpoint.

Enjoy this thick purple-corn drink and freshly fried cheese pastry while looking over La Paz at night. From above, the same streets you just walked through feel completely different.

We'll talk about the people still working below — drivers, vendors, restaurant workers, cleaners, healthcare workers and many others — and how the same night can mean leisure for one person and a working shift for another.

TÉ CON TÉ — TWO SIDES OF THE SAME STORY

Finish with té con té, hot tea mixed with Singani, Bolivia's distinctive grape spirit.

Earlier in the evening, alcohol appeared in a conversation about vulnerability and social problems. Here it appears in another context: friendship, celebration and social life.

Rather than deciding that something is simply good or bad, we'll look at how contradictory realities can coexist in the same city.

By the end of the evening, you'll have tasted some of La Paz's nighttime favourites, met people who work after dark, seen the city from another perspective and understood a little more about the different lives unfolding here every night.

This experience includes tastings but is not designed as a full dinner. Té con té contains alcohol. The tour is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans, and the anticucho sauce contains peanuts.

We visit real, independently operated local businesses and street-food vendors. Occasionally, protests, road blockades, weather or vendor availability may require us to adjust the route or a tasting. When necessary, we'll use the best available local alternative while preserving the spirit of the experience.
