What you can expect

  • Ascent of an easy 5,000-meter peak near La Paz, the Andean metropolis in Bolivia. With a drive of less than an hour, we reach the Andes from the Cumbre Pass in the direction of Coroico. Next to a large reservoir, we will begin our ascent into a secluded mountain area. Despite being close to the metropolis of La Paz, we are likely to be completely alone here. Although there is no visible ice here despite the high altitude,
but instead, jagged, dark rock peaks rise up into the
sky. Further down, there are fertile Andean valleys and intensely
vividly colored lakes. People are unlikely to be found here, but llamas
but llamas are highly likely to be present.

The landscape could also have been imported from the central ranges of the Eastern Alps,
only the peaks are significantly higher. But, on the other hand,
surprisingly easy to climb. Almost always, there is
at least one side there is a scree slope where any climbing sections
can be bypassed. Apart from the huge city of La Paz, there is a lot to see in the surrounding area.

    Description of the ascent

Our mountain can easily be climbed from La Paz as a full-day tour.
A little way past the checkpoint, the first reservoir comes into
The mountainous regions here are extremely important for the water supply of
La Paz. Almost all the higher-altitude mountain lakes
are used for water extraction. Here, too, the melting of the glacier regions is therefore a cause for the utmost concern.

On the left-hand side, just behind the lake, you can see wide tracks.
This is our starting point. The trail immediately starts to climb steeply,
initially on a good trail, which, however, soon turns into a narrow path.
The trail leads to the right towards the summit of the pass, and soon
the first mountains appear in front of us—interesting characters with
    wild, dark rock formations.
A black rock pyramid towers directly in front of us, and we head
    towards.
Now an even higher mountain comes into view, which we climb with easy scrambling. From Illimani to Huayna Potosí, many of Bolivia's highest 6,000-meter peaks can be seen here. Even Sajama, over 300 km away, can be seen.
The descent takes us past a picturesque mountain lake, after which a fun slide down the steep scree slopes to the starting point awaits us.
