Exploring two of La Fortuna’s most iconic experiences Arenal Volcano and its rejuvenating natural hot springs you’ll begin with a moderate guided hike at Parque Ecológico Volcán Arenal, walking around the volcano’s base and across old lava fields. The hike lasts approximately 2 hours 30 minutes and is considered moderate due to uneven terrain and the natural elevation changes of the area. Your guide will set a steady, comfortable pace while sharing insights about Arenal’s geology and history, as well as the rainforest ecosystem. Along the trails, keep an eye out for local wildlife such as tropical birds, monkeys, and other animals that may appear along the route.
After the volcano walk, it’s time to relax at Río Choyin, a natural hot springs river where warm volcanic waters flow outdoors. Surrounded by tropical scenery, you’ll have about 40 minutes to soak and unwind and you’ll also have the chance to apply a volcanic mud mask at the river for a fun, local touch to the experience. Bring your swimsuit and towel (and a change of clothes) so you can enjoy the thermal river comfortably before the return to La Fortuna.
Lunch is included only in the Morning (AM) option: a traditional Costa Rican casado served after the hike, with a drink included and a vegetarian option available (please request in advance if possible). The Afternoon (PM) option does not include lunch.
