What you can expect
Step into a world of timeless refinement in the heart of Kyoto.
This exclusive experience takes place in the private residence of a Urasenke tea master, nestled beside the Kyoto Imperial Palace
Upon arrival, you will be welcomed into the home and invited to change into traditional tabi socks.
You will learn about the philosophy, etiquette, and health benefits of matcha, all explained in fluent English.
then you will enter into the serene chashitsu — a traditional tea room with tatami flooring — and take your place either in seiza (formal kneeling) or cross-legged, depending on your comfort.
The host will serve you a seasonal traditional Japanese sweet (omogashi) and provide a moment of quiet reflection. The tea master will then perform an authentic temae (tea-making ritual) using inherited utensils. You are invited to experienced the highest grade of matcha, prepared just for you.
At last you will enjoy delicate higashi (dry sweets) and learn about the significance of the tea utensils. With guidance from the master, you will have a special opportunity to whisk your own bowl of matcha — a gesture of harmony and self-awareness.
