Walking tour through Kraków’s historic Kazimierz Jewish Quarter

What you can expect

Stroll through atmospheric streets that were once the heart of Jewish life in Kraków. Admire historic synagogues, quiet courtyards, and places where Jewish and Christian traditions developed side by side. With a knowledgeable local guide, gain insight into everyday life, beliefs, and customs that shaped Kazimierz for generations.

The walk starts on Szeroka Street, once the centre of Jewish communal life in Kraków. Framed by synagogues and historic townhouses from the 16th to 18th centuries, the area highlights the central role of faith and tradition in daily life. You’ll see the Old Synagogue from the outside, the oldest preserved synagogue in Poland, today a museum devoted to Jewish history and religious customs.

The route continues to the Remuh Synagogue and Cemetery, a place of profound spiritual importance and remembrance. Along the way, you’ll pass the Kupa Synagogue, historically linked to the poorer members of the community, as well as the Tempel Synagogue, which reflects the ideals of a more modern, assimilated Jewish society. The walk also leads through Plac Nowy, where the many layers of Kazimierz’s past meet the rhythm of contemporary life.
This walking tour reveals the unique character of Kazimierz—a district where history feels present in every street and courtyard. Stories of faith, perseverance, and community come together to form a vivid portrait of Kraków’s Jewish heritage.
