What you can expect
Meet your guide at the curved benches outside Motomachi Station. Begin with an introduction to the history of Kobe as Japan’s first international port city, where foreign cultures, architecture, and cuisines first blended with Japanese life.
Stroll through Kobe’s famous Chinatown, Nankinmachi, where the air is rich with the aroma of street food sizzling in woks, and the streets glow with red lanterns. Take photos under the iconic Chinese gate and see the lively fusion of Chinese and Japanese street culture.
Next, walk down toward the Kobe Harborland and Port Tower area, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the illuminated waterfront. Feel Kobe’s romantic and cosmopolitan spirit as you take in the sight of the bright Port Tower, the reflections on the water, and the gentle evening breeze.
From the harbor, head toward the Kobe Mosque, passing through the Kitano Ijinkan district, an area known for its preserved Western-style residences from the Meiji era. The walk itself is part of the experience, where you can see how the city’s architecture transitioned from Japanese traditional homes to European villas.
Arrive at the Kobe Mosque, Japan’s first and oldest mosque (built in 1935). Learn about the mosque’s history, its survival through the World War II bombings, and its significance for Japan’s Muslim community. Visitors can perform Maghrib prayer if they wish and take a quiet moment for reflection.
After the prayer, your guide will lead you to a nearby halal-certified restaurant (such as “Kobe Halal Food” or “Asian Spice”) where guests can enjoy a delicious halal dinner. The meal cost is not included in the tour price, allowing flexibility for guests to choose what they prefer.
